What is PRP treatment?

Local sedation is used in hair transplant surgery to make sure the patient is comfortable throughout the entire procedure. As the surgical staff works to deliver the best treatment possible, the patient is sitting down, talking, reading, watching a movie, or even taking a nap while their new hair is being transplanted. There is no need for heavy sedation, and Hair Transplant Surgery is considered to be a minor skin procedure.

After the procedure your scalp will still be significantly numb, so we ask that you be careful as to not bump your head getting in and out of the car. We will provide you with medications for any swelling or pain, and an antibiotic to cover you for the next few days. You’ll be given detailed instructions on how to wash and care for your scalp, and you will be able to resume your normal activities by the next day. The office will call you the following day for a report of how you are doing, and physicians are available around the clock if problems or questions should arise. The office will also provide you with all contact information prior to leaving, and will schedule an appointment 2 weeks later for a post-operative check.

Immediately after the procedure it will take 7 to 10 days for the area to completely heal. After this initial period it is just a waiting game. Between 10 and 12 weeks you will notice little hairs poking through the scalp. At the 6 month mark the hair will be about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch long, and this is the time you will come to the office for a checkup. We will take photographs at this time and do a physical exam of the scalp to see your progress. Then your next appointment will be scheduled in another 6 months. This will be the one year post – operative appointment, and you will be able to see the final result of the procedure. Your hair is anywhere from an inch to inch and half in length. At this appointment we will take additional photographs for your medical file, and this will be your last necessary appointment. You now can just enjoy life with your new hair!

Women are finding out that they are great candidates for hair transplant surgery. Women can have specific patterns of hair loss, hairline recession, and general thinning on the top of the scalp. These hair loss patterns can all be treated by hair transplant surgery. The women’s donor area in these cases is unaffected by the hair loss pattern and makes them an ideal candidate for hair transplant surgery.

We have known for a long time that increasing the blood flow and circulation to an area can aid in the healing processes of skin. These same principles hold true for stimulation of hair follicles and the growth of healthy hair. This is exactly how Laser Light Therapy works. It utilizes therapeutic light pulses to increase circulation of blood and oxygen, and stimulates cells to become more active at the hair follicle. By creating this environment, the hair cycle will continue on with the growth cycle, resulting in thicker and healthier hair. This helps prevent miniaturization of hairs that otherwise would eventually die and fall out. Koher Medical is now able to offer this non-surgical option for both men and women, and even provide portable laser devices that can be used in the comfort of one’s own home. Laser Light Therapy works well by itself or in conjunction with other hair loss treatments (Rogaine, Hair Transplantation, Propecia/Finasteride).
