About Koher Medical

Many people experience hair loss during their lifetimes. This hair loss may be the result of aging, genetics, hormonal changes, or other causes, such as stress or illness. No matter what’s causing your hair loss, the experts at Koher Medical can help restore your hair growth in months, not years….

Hair Transplant Procedures

At Koher Medical, we’re experts at performing surgical hair transplant procedures to help restore your hair growth in a natural way. For patients who meet the criteria, hair transplants can be an effective and permanent way to reduce thinning and stimulate hair growth.

Here are some of the key differences between the FUE and FUT procedures:

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

The follicular unit extraction technique has become a popular procedure for people experiencing hair loss because it doesn’t leave a noticeable scar. During this procedure, medical staff take individual hair follicles from areas of the scalp where hair grows actively to create grafts. Then, they transplant those grafts into areas where hair growth is thinning or diminishing. This procedure works well for many men and women to help them manage their hair loss. In particular, it can be a good choice for men who want to keep their hair very short, since it doesn’t leave a scar.

Follicular Unit transplant (FUT)

Follicular Unit Transplant is one of the two surgical methods that is used to restore one’s hair. It’s done by removing a strip of tissue from the permanent donor area. From there each hair follicle is carefully dissected to ensure graft survivability, our experience in doing this helps to minimize graft transection (damage to the hair follicle) After each hair follicle has been separated it is then placed into the recipient sites.

Hair Transplant Recovery and Results

The actual hair transplant surgery typically takes between six to eight hours, depending on your hair type and the procedure you choose. Patients are put under a local anesthetic, similar to the numbing medication you may get at the dentist. During the procedure, you can take breaks during the day so you remain comfortable at all times.

After the procedure, you may experience some minor discomfort as you recover, such as forehead swelling, itching, and tenderness. We provide every patient with comprehensive post-operative instructions so you know how to care for yourself after the surgery. It typically takes most patients about one week to heal after the procedure.

Pricing and Financing

One question we hear often from patients is how much a hair transplant will cost. Typically, the cost of this surgery depends on the number of grafts used for the procedure. During an FUE procedure, we individually extract each graft, which means this procedure is more expensive than the FUT technique. The number of grafts for a hair transplant procedure can vary based on the amount of the area where you want to restore growth and your hair type. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hair transplant cost?

Since several factors can impact the cost of a hair transplant, it can vary from patient to patient. One major factor contributing to fluctuating hair transplant costs is the number of grafts a patient will require for the procedure. Each graft or follicular unit generally consists of one to four hairs, and a typical hair transplant may require up to 3,000 grafts.

We consider the following factors to determine the number of grafts needed for a hair restoration procedure:

  • Amount of hair loss
  • Size of area the patient would like covered
  • Hair type
  • Donor area density
  • Expectations and goals of the patient

At Koher Medical, our follicular unit transplantation (FUT) transplants cost $5.00 per graft, and follicular unit extraction (FUE) transplants are $6.00 per graft. The minimum case size is 1,000 grafts, so the starting prices for FUT and FUE are $5,000 and $6,000, respectively. Generally, the price per graft decreases as the size of the order increases.

Though the cost of a hair transplant requires a large financial commitment, the results are worth the investment. Hair restoration is known to boost self-esteem and general quality of life.

Hair restoration treatments are procedures or techniques designed to stimulate hair growth in areas where hair loss has occurred. Hair treatments can significantly improve the appearance of thinning or balding areas and provide a long-term solution to hair loss.

During your hair restoration treatment, you will receive:

  • Medication, including prescription drugs such as Finasteride and topical applications such as Minoxidil, to reverse or slow down mild hair loss.
  • Hair restoration surgery, such as FUE hair transplants.
  • Non-surgical procedures, such as scalp micropigmentation (SMP), platelet-rich plasma therapy, and low-level laser therapy.

A hair transplantation procedure is a permanent solution for hair loss. When it’s completed by a skilled hair transplant surgeon, like Dr. Koher, the result can last a lifetime. Transplanted hair follicles are programmed differently, they won’t go through the same thinning process as the hair on top of the head can go through. Additionally, hair transplant surgery doesn’t prevent hair loss from other parts of the scalp. Thus, to handle any further hair loss, we encourage patients to choose non-surgical techniques to maintain the native hair.

Hair transplants are not painful because the surgeon gives a local anesthetic to lessen the patient’s discomfort before beginning the surgery. While the actual procedure is painless, as the anesthetic wears off, the scalp may feel sensitive and irritated. We provide patients with OTC pain medications to aid with discomfort.

Redness and mild swelling are common during the first few days following a hair transplant due to the stress on the scalp, especially if you’ve had a larger session. Patients can expect discomfort in the form of itching and some numbness for the first week post-procedure, but pain may be abnormal.

Following our post-operative care instructions, it is important to make sure you have a smooth recovery. We provide patients with detailed post procedure care documents, and also provide a direct line to Dr. Koher to answer any questions 24/7.

The best age for a hair transplant depends on an individual’s situation and needs. Therefore, consulting with a hair transplant surgeon is the safest way to determine an appropriate time for you. They can assess factors such as:

  • Rate of hair loss
  • Availability of donor hair
  • Overall suitability for the procedure

Determining the optimal age for hair transplantation is crucial for those experiencing hair loss since receiving the procedure too early or too late may compromise the chances of a successful hair restoration.

A FUE hair surgery can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $15,000 or more. Case size is the biggest factor in determining the overall price. During your virtual or in-person consultation, we will provide patients with an exact price for their procedure.

Yes, a hair transplant using the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method is generally regarded as a permanent solution to hair loss. During the procedure, healthy hair follicles are extracted from donor areas, typically the back or sides of the scalp, and implanted into the bald or thinning areas. Once transplanted, the follicles continue to grow and produce hair naturally.

If you are experiencing hair loss, Koher Medical is the best hair transplant clinic for permanent and natural solutions.

The main difference between FUE hair surgery and FUT is the method of removing the hair follicles from the donor area. Both are great surgical techniques, and one isn’t necessarily better than the other. The primary deciding factor when considering an FUE or FUT hair transplant is a patient’s hairstyle. For those patients who typically wear their hair shorter, FUE may be the better option, and for long hair, FUT should be a consideration. Most patients are ideal candidates for either technique.

In FUT, a strip of scalp tissue containing hair follicles is surgically removed from the donor area, usually the back or sides of the scalp. This strip is then carefully dissected to separate individual follicular units for transplantation. However, this method leaves a fine, linear scar along the donor area.,. The recovery time for FUT is slightly longer due to the surgical incision.

On the other hand, with FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area using a small, punch-like instrument. Scarring with FUE is very minimal.  FUE is less invasive and allows for a quicker recovery time.

Koher Medical offer can provide you with an advanced FUT and FUE hair transplant. Our expert medical staff is highly skilled in these treatment options, which means we’re confident that you will love the results of your hair transplant.

At Koher Medical, we are very comfortable working with all hair types, which means both FUT and FUE can be ideal options for our African American patients. Hair length is typically the deciding factor when determining which option is best.

Working with an experienced hair restoration surgeon, like Dr. Koher, who understands the distinctive qualities of African American hair transplants can ensure the best possible outcome.

The best transplant method for women is typically the follicular unit transplant (FUT). Since women typically wear their hair longer, it makes them ideal candidates for FUT. If a woman decides to undergo the FUE procedure, we would need to buzz the hair down really close to the skin. For most of our female patients, this simply is not an option, which explains why an overwhelming majority of our female patients chose the FUT route.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that involves tattooing tiny dots or lines onto the scalp to mimic the appearance of hair follicles. This gives the illusion of fuller hair or a “buzz cut” (or stubble effect) on a bald head.

SMP can be an effective solution for individuals experiencing hair loss or those seeking to enhance the density and definition of their hairline. It’s also a viable alternative for those who don’t want a hair transplant or who haven’t seen a desired outcome from the procedure.

Yes. If you had a bad hair transplant, it can often be fixed through a hair transplant repair or revision surgery. During this process, a skilled surgeon can correct issues, such as unnatural hairline placement, uneven hair distribution, visible scars, or unsatisfactory results from a previous transplant.

If you’re unhappy with your hair restoration, put your trust in Koher Medical to reconstruct and rejuvenate your appearance. We offer a wide range of corrective techniques that can help remedy any bad transplants or unsatisfactory results and provide you with healthy, and natural-looking hair.
